Stepadoo Tiptoes In
Good day, everyone. I am Stephanie. I am a bookaholic. I am proud to be present here to address my addiction which may soon reach uncontrollable levels.
Counselor, Monday I went to MPH MidValley to buy The Little Prince by Antoine de Saint-Exupery. My heart plummeted to my ass when I discovered yet another supplier (and my favourite one, no less) could not fulfill this one teeny-tiny-weeny request.
Unsurprisingly, I had wandered to the classics section. Who knows? Maybe it was the proximity of that particular shelf to the cashier and entrance? Or that I refused to browse in the children’s section but preferred instead a Penguin Little Prince? I still debate the events that led to my worst book spree this year.
Yes, I admit it. I DID IT. *very sad face*
Do my fellow Bookaholics Anonymous-Only-To-The-Extent-Of-Nicknames know of the Penguin Popular Classics titles that come in distasteful light green? The ones that are pure classics, no footnotes, appendixes or livers? The ones that cost only RM8.50 each? My heart quickens…Did I mention I am also a cheapskate? I see the light, the hunger dawning in some of your eyes. YES.
Guess how many I bought? Guess! Guess!
Off the top of my head, 9 for me and 2 for my coursemate:
The two are :
The Importance of Being Earnest by Oscar Wilde.
Emma by Jane Austen.
My nine are :
The Importance of Being Earnest (yes, possibly the third copy in my life)
Arabian Nights: A Selection
Dangerous Liaisons by Pierre Choderlos de Laclos
Selected Tales by Edgar Allan Poe
Anna Karenina by Leo Tolstoy
The Happy Prince and Other Stories by Oscar Wilde
The Turn of The Screw by Henry James
Two were omnibus editions of RM22.90 each:
The Scarlet Letter and The House of the Seven Gables by Nathaniel Hawthorne
Far From The Madding Crowd and The Return of The Native by Thomas Hardy
Sigh. Lovely, lovely little buggers. What am I going to do without them? With the latest purchase my waiting list has extended to 20 books.
Thus, I have made a pledge to not make another purchase until I have finished 10 of them. Wish me luck, and God bless you all. Till the next session.
Reading: One Day In The Life Of Ivan Denisovich by Alexander Solzhenitsyn.
Listening: Postcards From The Edge by Carrie Fisher (audiobook).
